La medicina tradicional en M\u00e9xico utiliza la planta de chayote para disolver piedras del ri\u00f1\u00f3n tomando un t\u00e9 de hojas de chayote. Por sus propiedades diur\u00e9ticas, tambi\u00e9n se utiliza para reducir la hipertensi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El chayote es miembro de la Cucurbitaceae, o familia de la calabaza, pero a diferencia de otros tipos de calabaza, tiene s\u00f3lo una semilla en el centro de la fruta. Su nombre latino es Sechium edule y tambi\u00e9n se le conoce como mirliton, choco, o en n\u00e1huatl, chayohtli. Cada fruta tiene su \u00fanico contorno y sus propias arrugas. Algunas variedades tienen espinas en la parte exterior de la piel y deben tomarse con cuidado o con guantes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Se come crudo o ligeramente cocinado y gracias a su sabor suave se puede guisar de muchas maneras. A\u00f1adir otros alimentos a una receta con chayote saca su mejor potencial. A continuaci\u00f3n, est\u00e1 una de mis maneras favoritas de preparar el chayote; es mejor pelarlo bajo el chorro de agua fr\u00eda ya que tiene un fluido pegajoso que puede adormecer temporalmente tu piel. P\u00e9lalo como si pelaras un pepino y luego p\u00e1rtelo a la mitad, quita la semilla interna y luego rebana y corta en cubos de una pulgada y ap\u00e1rtalo en un taz\u00f3n mientras preparas el resto de la receta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-mi-receta-de-chayote-favorita\">Mi Receta de Chayote Favorita<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ingredientes\"><strong>Ingredientes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2 cucharadas de Aceite de Oliva Virgen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 diente de ajo<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd cebolla<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 chile serrano peque\u00f1o<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd taza de pasas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 chayotes cortados en cubos de una pulgada<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00be taza de vino blanco<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bc taza de pi\u00f1ones o semillas de calabaza crudas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sal y pimienta<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-instrucciones\"><strong>Instrucciones<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pela los chayotes. Quita la semilla y corta en cubos de 1 pulgada. Corta la cebolla en \u00be\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Calienta el aceite ligeramente y a\u00f1ade el ajo, la cebolla y la mitad del chile serrano (sin semillas). Deja cocinar por unos minutos y luego a\u00f1ade las pasas, el chayote y el vino blanco. Cubre y cuece a fuego lento por 15 minutos. El chayote debe estar firme y crujiente, pero tierno cuando est\u00e9 listo. Mientras se est\u00e1 cocinando el chayote, tuesta los pi\u00f1ones (o las semillas de calabaza) hasta que est\u00e9n dorados.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Por los \u00faltimos minutos descubre el chayote para que se evapore el vino. A\u00f1ade sal y pimienta. Coloca el chayote en un plato y cubre con los pi\u00f1ones. Es un gran platillo por s\u00ed mismo en lugar de un platillo con prote\u00edna, o sobre un arroz con queso Oaxaca.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-como-quitar-el-chile-de-tu-piel-no-te-laves\"><strong>\u00bfC\u00f3mo quitar el chile de tu piel? \u00a1No te laves!<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Mi amiga Alicia me ense\u00f1\u00f3 este viejo truco para evitar los efectos posteriores del chile en las manos que puede lastimar tus ojos. Despu\u00e9s de tocar el chile no te laves las manos. Esto s\u00f3lo esparcir\u00e1 el chile. Frota tus manos en tu cabello (si eres calvo, \u00a1hazlo en el cabello de alguien m\u00e1s!) el cabello absorber\u00e1 el chile perfectamente.
